Brief Description of Work for this Position

UNCW MarineQuest invites you to become part of one of the most unique marine and environmental education summer programs in the country. We are celebrating over 35 years of service in coastal North Carolina by continuing to offer fun-filled, marine science focused academic week-long programs for children.

We have several different evening, weekend, and RA staff positions available. All RAs must live in the residential hall for the duration of their position. RA dormitory responsibilities include supervising preparations for lights out, curfew, morning roll call, and breakfast. Each rewarding position is unique in terms of both content and participant age-range. MarineQuest evening insructors will work with youth ranging from ages 9 -17 at MarineQuest’s marine science based academic enrichment summer camp programs (exact age range and hours depends on program position selected). MarineQuest weekend staff will work with residential campers ages 15-17 from 3:45 pm Friday through 10 pm Sunday supervising all activities, transporting students, and monitoring free time. Terms of Employment:
1. June 1 through August 3, 2018
2. Mandatory staff training during the week of June 1 through June 8, 2018. *Evening, weekend, and RA staff training will take place June 1st 9:00 am – 4:00 pm and June 4th – 6th 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
3. Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Qualifications for MarineQuest Summer Camp Instructor/Counselor Staff are specific to the individual positions in each category. Applicants should review each individual position’s qualification requirements at:

Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position

-First Aid and CPR Certification must be obtained by June 1, 2018
-Must complete online training modules and attend MarineQuest staff training held June 1st – June 8th

Preferred formal education or training, professional skills and work experience

-Lifeguard certification preferred

Work Hours Evening positions: 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm Sunday and 3:30 pm -10:00 pm Monday-Thursday; Weekend positions: 3:30 pm – 10:30 pm Friday, 6:30 am -10:30 pm Saturday and Sunday; RA positions: 6:30 am - 8:00 am and 9:30 pm - 11 pm Monday through Thursday, Friday am
Work Days Evening positions: Sunday-Thursday; Weekend positions: Friday (evenings) - Sunday; RA work varied days
Hours Per Week Evening positions 36 hours; Weekend positions 40 hours; RA positions minimum 15 hours
