Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

UNCW MarineQuest invites you to become part of one of the most unique marine and environmental education summer programs in the country. We are celebrating over 35 years of service in coastal North Carolina by continuing to offer fun-filled, marine science focused academic week-long programs for children.

We have several different positions including half-day and full-day. Each rewarding position is unique in terms of both content and participant age-range. Applicants should first visit to learn more about each individual position before coming back here to apply.

MarineQuest Summer Camp Instructor/Counselors will work with youth ranging from ages 5-9 and residential programs day staff will work with youth ranging from ages 9 -17. Day staff positions will work either half-day or full-day marine science based academic enrichment summer camp programs (exact age range and hours depends on program selected for; for more information).

Duties and responsibilities for MarineQuest Summer Camp Instructor/Counselor positions are specific to the individual positions in each category. Applicants should review each individual position’s duties at:

Terms of Employment:
1. June 1 through August 3, 2018
2. Mandatory staff training during the week of June 1 through June 8, 2018.
3. Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Qualifications for MarineQuest Summer Camp Instructor/Counselor Staff are specific to the individual positions in each category. Applicants should review each individual position’s qualification requirements at:

Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position

-Lifeguarding Certification* preferred and in some cases required (Must be signed-up for a certification course withing 30 days of returning signed Letter of Agreement)
-First Aid and CPR Certification (Certifications must be obtained by June 1, 2018)
-Must complete online training modules and attend MarineQuest staff training held June 1st – June 8th

Preferred formal education or training, professional skills and work experience

Knowledge of marine sciences is a plus
Experience teaching K-12 students

Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of bachelors degree or equivalent

Work Hours Half-day positions: 7:45 am - 12:15 pm Monday – Friday Full-day 7:45 am - 4:15 pm Monday-Thursday, and 7:45 am - 1:45 pm Friday
Work Days Daytime positions: Monday-Friday
Hours Per Week Half-day positions 25 hrs, Full-day positions 40 hours, with possibility of 5 hours overtime

Recruitment Range $8 - $12/hour - (dependent on qualifications and specific position)
Special Instructions to Applicants

Please note, this is a temporary position. The length of the assignment will be based on department need with the possibility of continuation. Employees in temporary positions are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave. Temporary employees are subject to the Affordable Care Act guidelines.

Pay varies by position and is based on qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additional compensation includes housing and some meals when working.
