UNCW MarineQuest invites you to become part of one of the most unique marine and environmental education summer programs in the country. We are celebrating over 35 years of service in coastal North Carolina by continuing to offer fun-filled, marine science focused academic single- and multi-week long programs for children ages 9-17.

The MarineQuest Summer Camp Residential Life Coordinator is an essential part of the summer program administrative team. The Summer Camp Residential Life Coordinator is responsible for the overseeing and supervising all evening and weekend staff including RAs. The Coordinator is responsible for leading evening staff training sessions, developing weekly and daily instructor and RA duty schedules, and implementing the Staff Code of Conduct for staff living in the dorm. He/she will oversee all programmatic evening social and educational activities, camper related dorm life including meals, sleeping arrangements, and behavior management. This includes assisting with student supervision and overseeing implementation of the MarineQuest Code of Conduct.

This position will assist in maintaining a sense of team and collaborative relationships among the MarineQuest day/evening/weekend staff to maximize the quality of MarineQuest programs for its residential participants.

Primary Duties Include:
•Supervise night activity counselors, weekend activity counselors and RAs
•Facilitate evening programs and activities, many of which take place in and around water and require exceptional oversight and safety considerations
•Live on-site in dorms with campers
•Coordinate transportation to evening activity sites
•Coordinate and Supervise Sunday residential check-in
•Manage and maintain an inventory of all dorms keys
•Administrative responsibilities (including but not limited to: completing incident reports, some management of camper paperwork, emails, copying, etc.)
•Responsible for the enforcement of the MarineQuest Staff Code of Conduct
•Reports to MarineQuest Director

Terms of Employment:
1. May 14 through June 4 30 hours per week planning and prep
2. June 4 – August 3, 2018 40+ hours per week Training week and summer programs
3. Employment is subject to a criminal background check

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Housing & residence life experience

Supervisory experience preferred

Minimum requirement of bachelor’s

Must have strong oral communication skills to communicate effectively with
students, parents, and staff

Must demonstrate initiative, positivity, and leadership qualities

Must have desire and experience working
with youth

Must demonstrate qualities of maturity, patience, and responsibility

Employment is subject to a criminal background check

Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position

-First Aid and CPR Certification
-Valid driver’s license
-Must be at least 21 years old

Preferred formal education or training, professional skills and work experience

Lifeguarding certification

Knowledge of marine sciences is a plus

Genuine interest in the academic, social, and emotional growth of adolescents

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Marine Sciences, education, or related field

Work Hours Typically 6:30 am - 8:30 am and 3:00-10:00 pm Monday - Thursday; Friday 6:30 am - 10:00 am; 12:00 pm-10:00 pm Sunday; Occasional overtime possible as needed to address unforeseen after-hours concerns or administrative needs.
Work Days Sunday - Friday morning
Hours Per Week 40 hours, plus potential of 7 overtime hours per week

Please note, this is a temporary position. The length of the assignment will be based on department need with the possibility of continuation. Employees in temporary positions are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave. Temporary employees are subject to the Affordable Care Act guidelines.

Pay varies by position and is based on qualifications, knowledge, skills, and
