Summary of Position

The Assistant Director of International Student and Scholar Services oversees UNCW’s J-1 Exchange Visitor program for both students and scholars and serves as academic adviser to J-1 exchange students in course selection, transcript evaluation and course preparedness. Additionally, this position develops and implements a robust marketing and recruitment strategy to attract exchange visitors, conducts J-1 Scholar orientation and programming, and oversees H-1B and LPR (EB-1 and EB-2) sponsorship by filing petitions with the Department of Labor and USCIS and further advises host departments and scholars on immigration and other matters. Serving as the Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and Designated School Official (DSO) in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), this position oversees the Terra Dotta software program for ISSS and assists ISSS unit with international student orientations, events, and programs.

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
• Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills particularly with non-native English speakers.
• Experience with J, F, H, or LPR regulations
• Experience with software apps such as Microsoft Office, and systems such as Banner, Cascade

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years experience
• Time spent living/studying overseas and/or knowledge or a foreign language
• Knowledge of foreign educational systems
• Experience with Terra Dotta

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Office of International Programs (OIP) is the administrative unit responsible for initiating, coordinating and managing international activity at the university. Among the activities are the development of faculty, student and staff international opportunities and programs, the management of study abroad exchange programs and other MOUs, assistance to all parties in internationalizing the curriculum, enhancing diversity through the increase of international faculty, students and staff on this campus, and the general fostering of an international environment at UNCW. OIP is responsible for all immigration matters for the university.
