Essential functions of this position:

The position requires an in-depth knowledge of the office or work unit policies and procedures unique to the area served such as student, business or other university services in order to communicate information involving significant programs and functions.

This position provides administrative support to the Public and International Affairs department chair, faculty, students, and other staff with items such as preparation and distribution of documents and reports such as purchasing, travel, and personnel; compiling, organizing and maintaining files and records such as confidential student and faculty records; assisting or referring visitors, staff, students or others as initial contact for the department; or document management using information technology systems such as Banner student.

This role will also work to obtain, clarify and provide information regarding activities of the work unit or program for students, staff and faculty. The role will also assist the graduate programs within the department.

N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:

Good verbal and written communication skills

Preferred education, professional skills and experience:

Knowledge of the regulations and policies of the department, College of Arts and Sciences, University of North Carolina, and the State of North Carolina which are applicable to the work

Knowledge of Banner financial and student information system

Specific knowledge of the formats involved in the preparation of documents that are necessary for the teaching and service mission of the department

One year clerical word processing experience in an office environment
