Description of Work for this Position

The Temporary Assistant Coach assists the head coaches in providing leadership for two NCAA Division I golf programs (men and women). Assists with all aspects of the golf programs and plays an integral part in the day-to-day administrative responsibilities, daily team training, evaluation and recruitment of student-athletes, academic monitoring, and skill development. This position must work within UNCW, CAA, and NCAA guidelines to provide student-athletes an exceptional collegiate experience while competing for championships. This is a temporary position starting in September 2017 through May 2018.

Responsibilities include:

Evaluating and recruiting qualified student-athletes

Teaching the mental and physical aspects of the game while preparing student-athletes for life after intercollegiate sports

Designing and implementing training programs and establish practice plans

Assisting with skill development of players and implement team strategies

Adhering to and enforcing all policies and procedures of the department and university as well as the rules and regulations of the CAA and NCAA

Working with support staff while maintaining organization and administration of the program within a budget

Tracking countable athletic related activities through ARMS online system

Participating in university, civic, and public relations activities for promotion of the sport

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Bachelor’s Degree required

Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Demonstrated leadership and communication skills along with strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills

Must possess the highest level of ethical standards, recruit qualified student-athletes, and display a strong commitment to their academic success

Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

Current certifications in CPR and First Aid or must obtain certifications within first 30 days of employment

Must possess and maintain a current driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record while serving in the position

Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position
Preferred formal education or training, professional skills and work experience

Master’s Degree with Division I coaching experience

Demonstrated success in recruitment of scholarship athletes

Work Hours
Work Days Monday - Friday, some weekends
Hours Per Week 30 - 40 hours per week

Recruitment Range $2,000 per month
