Summary of Position

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics (http://www.uncw.edu/math) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in statistics at the assistant professor level starting August 2017. The chosen candidates will be expected to excel in teaching introductory and advanced statistics courses and engage students in research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, expectations for the positions include maintaining a strong research program and providing service to the department and university. Degree programs offered by the department include a bachelor of arts and bachelor of science in mathematics along with a master of science in mathematics.

Minimum Requirements

A doctoral degree in statistics or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

The search is open to all areas of statistics, and applicants with methodological research expertise in the area of spatial temporal models, statistical machine learning, or Bayesian statistics are encouraged to apply. Qualifications also include the potential to work with existing faculty on research.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers programs leading to undergraduate degrees in mathematics, statistics, and teacher licensure, as well as a graduate degree in mathematics and a graduate certificate in applied statistics.

The department consists of 30 faculty members, approximately 25 graduate students/teaching assistants and approximately 110 majors. (http://www.uncw.edu/math).
