Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The Associate Director for Health Promotion and Crossroads is responsible managing Health Promotion and Crossroads, two service units within the Student Health Center. This position oversees the design, development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive programs focused on student health and wellness. This position manages a team of professionals and a support position and is available to other health center staff as well as on-campus partners for consultation and education surrounding student health and wellness. In addition, the Associate Director is a member of the Student Health Center Executive Committee and have a role in continuity of operations planning.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in Health Education, Public or Community Health, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

CHES or MCHES certification is preferred

Current CPR certification is preferred

Previous experience in college health or higher education is preferred

Previous work experience as a Health Educator in a college/university setting strongly preferred

Must have the ability to effectively communicate with students, other staff in the health center, staff, faculty, families, and local partners, with a focus on confidentiality

Must have current working knowledge of current health issues affecting college students

Previous experience supervising professional staff is preferred

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The mission of the Abrons Student Health Center (SHC) is to provide student centered affordable, quality health and preventive services to the students of UNCW. The Student Health Center is made up of four parts: Medical Services, Pharmacy, Health Promotion and Crossroads. The SHC staff work collaboratively to best help students stay healthy and make healthy decisions while at UNCW.

Health Promotion serves as the campus resource for information on a variety of health and wellness topics, including nutrition, sexual health, sleep, and stress. Services and educational programming is provided to increase students’ knowledge and commitment to personal health and well-being. Crossroads, the campus alcohol and other drug prevention and education program, provides comprehensive prevention programming across campus, provides educational programs for the campus conduct system, and coordinates the collegiate recovery community.

The Division of Student Affairs consists of thirteen functional departments, each of which is responsible for providing a variety of student support, service, and educational programs which are accessible to all members of the university community. The staff members are dedicated individuals known for their passion and commitment to implementing programs and services that affect student development over the course of a lifetime. Crossroads, Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention and Education Programs, is dedicated to the advancement of thoughtful and healthy decision-making regarding the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

Crossroads encourages legal accountability and personal responsibility in all choices involving alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

Crossroads programming will fall under one or more of the following program directions:
Early identification and intervention for individual students
Impacting individuals for behavior change
Campus-wide collaboration on creating a healthy environment
Connection to community to create healthy environments for current and upcoming students
