Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The School of Health and Applied Human Sciences (SHAHS) within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks an outstanding, dedicated, dynamic, innovative and exemplary teacher and administrator for a full time, 9 month position for a non-tenture track appointment at the rank of Lecturer in the Recreation, Sport Leadership and Tourism Management program to begin August 2018. The successful candidate will be asked to teach a variety of undergraduate courses in the Recreation, Sport Leadership and Tourism Management Program such as but not limited to Leisure and Society, Program Planning and Leadership, Pre-Internship Seminar, Budgeting and Finance in Recreation, Sport and Tourism and Internship in Recreation, Sport Leadership and Tourism Management. Further, the successful candidate will serve as the program’s Internship Coordinator, advise students, and provide community engagement and professional service.

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree in Recreation Administration, Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, Recreation, Parks and Tourism Studies or a closely-related field at the time of employment
• Evidence of successful college teaching experience in a Recreation, Sport Leadership or Tourism Management or closely-related curriculum
• Evidence of successful and significant employment in Recreation Administration, Parks and Recreation Management, Tourism Management or a closely-related field
• Evidence of successful community involvement including the ability to develop and sustain formal partnerships with relevant recreation, sport leadership and tourism agencies
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with constituents across the College and University
• Strong communication and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous successful experience serving as a student Internship and/or Field work/Practicum Coordinator
• Evidence of previous successful experience with technology integration in course delivery
• Demonstrated ability to teach multiple and varying courses across the Recreation, Sport Leadership and Tourism Management major particularly in the Public and Non-Profit Option and the Tourism, Hospitality and Events Option
• Demonstrated association and familiarity with a variety of agency and organizational components representing the public and non-profit sectors of the leisure service delivery system
• Demonstrated involvement in and contributions to professional organizations

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Recreation, Sport Leadership and Tourism Management Program at UNCW is more than 35 years old and currently offers concentrations/options in Public and Non-Profit Recreation; Recreational Sport Leadership; and Tourism, Hospitality and Events.

College/School Information

The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work.
