Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor in Psychology with a research program in the area of Behavioral Neuroscience.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must hold a Psychology or related Neuroscience field prior to August 2018.

Preferred Qualifications

The department is seeking a candidate who will develop a productive research program that will be highly competitive for external funding and provide training opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds. The research specialty is open to all subfields of behavioral neuroscience. A candidate with the potential to collaborate with the department’s existing faculty is desirable. Candidates working with animal models are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong publication record and relevant postdoctoral experience. The position will begin in August 2018. Successful candidates will be prepared to teach neuroscience-related and core courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Tenure and promotion requirements include evidence of a strong independent research program, excellence in teaching and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, and service activities at the departmental, university, discipline levels.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The department has 33 full-time faculty members and serves 600 undergraduate and 65 graduate majors. The department currently operates Master’s and PhD programs. Expansion of the doctoral program to support non-clinical experimental PhD students is currently in the planning stages. Candidates will be expected to provide research supervision of Master’s theses and doctoral dissertations. The department emphasizes applied learning experiences at the graduate and undergraduate level and strongly values the contribution of basic and applied research to advance the field of psychology.
