Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks an environmental ecologist who has the ability to teach and conduct research within the interdisciplinary context of environmental sciences. Successful candidates will demonstrate practical and academic experience in a terrestrial ecological specialty (e.g., agro-ecology, coastal ecology, fire ecology, human ecology, landscape ecology, restoration ecology, urban ecology). Teaching duties include introductory and upper division courses, as well as additional upper level and graduate courses developed in his or her area of expertise.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in environmental ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline by the start date, have a strong commitment to teaching, and demonstrate the ability to generate externally-funded research.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in the scientific and social dimensions of environmental ecology with a research program relevant to the southeastern US and that complements existing faculty expertise.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Environmental Sciences is a community of scholars focused upon the relationship between humans, other organisms, and the physical, chemical, and biological aspects that influence both natural and built environments. The department is interdisciplinary, drawing upon the resources of many related fields to provide the rigorous analysis necessary to understand environmental problems and formulate environmentally-sound solutions.
