Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The Outreach and Engagement Librarian will examine the university and community holistically and determine how to best connect Randall Library to faculty, staff, students, and community users through interdisciplinary and cultural programming. This position is responsible for the planning and coordination of programming and exhibits, assessment and outreach, and promotion and marketing.

Minimum Requirements

•ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library and information science
•Demonstrated commitment to progressive, innovative library outreach and programming

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience in creating and managing events or programming
•Experience in an academic library
•Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse constituencies including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and researchers, and community users
•Experience using social media and writing for the web
•Track record of success in planning and implementing assessment initiatives
•Experience in promoting library services and engaging key stakeholders
•Knowledge of marketing concepts
•Experience with promotion and publicity
•Demonstrated commitment to service excellence
•Ability to work creatively and collaboratively
•Strong leadership skills
•Strong interpersonal and public communication skills

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

Academic Affairs is the central division for implementing the mission of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Through effective academic policies, practices, and programs, it provides leadership for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and creative work as well as service to local, regional, and global communities. William Madison Randall Library supports the mission of the University of North Carolina Wilmington through the provision of information resources, services, and programs relevant to the needs of its students, faculty, and staff. It also serves as a rich cultural resource for the surrounding community and the region. To accomplish this mission, the library provides (1) diverse collections of informational resources in multiple formats; (2) efficient access to informational resources; (3) assistance and instruction in identifying, evaluating, and interpreting information; (4) a safe and comfortable facility which stimulates intellectual curiosity and reflective thinking; and (5) programs that connect scholars and interested individuals with information and expertise to inspire lifelong learning.

The Outreach and EngagementLibrarian will join a team of colleagues in the Research and Instructional Services (RIS) Division of Randall Library. These faculty are responsible for the design, delivery, and assessment of research services, information literacy instruction, collections services, and outreach that contribute to student, faculty, and staff success. RIS librarians lead educational and research support initiatives, outreach, and other liaison activities that support the unique information, learning, and research needs of the students, faculty, and staff of assigned departments.
