Summary of Position

The Department of Environmental Sciences at UNCW is hiring a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Human Ecology. The Department seeks a candidate whose expertise includes environmental literacy; developing outreach and placed-based curricula; constructing and maintaining mass and social media; and creating education materials for school and community groups. Research should address the role of human factors in the maintenance and disruption of ecosystems including the effects of population on environmental quality. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate their ability to integrate natural resource research, extension, and outreach in their work. Please note we are not seeking applicants that specialize solely in K-12 curriculum development or outdoor recreation. The position will be responsible for developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in human ecology, environmental literacy, and outreach communication for the M.S. program in addition to supporting the current environmental sciences curriculum.

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Human Ecology, Environmental Sciences or relevant science discipline completed by the start date. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to generate externally-funded research, publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and should have a strong commitment to teaching and working in an interdisciplinary academic context.
