Teach one or more sections of University College course, UNI 201: Transfer Seminar. Course Description Below.

UNI 201: Transfer Seminar is a 3 credit course for first-semester transfer students. Course focuses on building community, campus resources, academic and graduation planning, major and career exploration, and overall adjustment to UNCW as transfer or military student. This course fulfills Information Literacy and Writing Intensive competencies for University Studies.

UNI 201 Learning Outcomes
• Students will demonstrate an understanding of and participate in the powerful learning expertise of higher education at UNCW.
• Student will evaluate their transition into, anticipate their path through, and plan for their career after UNCW.
• Students will understand and illustrate information literacy.
• Students will strengthen writing skills by creating a research and reflection based Transfer Portfolio.
• Students will demonstrate self-knowledge and appreciate the value of human differences.
• Students will demonstrate and understand dimensions of health and wealth.

Common Course Components
The goals and student learning outcomes of Transfer Seminar encourage consistency across sections, while allowing faculty flexibility in designing and implementing the curriculum. Each section will include the following common components:
• Common Syllabus
• Common Instructor Resources
• Information Literacy Instructional Session with a UNCW Librarian
• 201 Peer Mentor
• Participation in Events Beyond the Classroom
• Journals and reflections
• Transfer Portfolio

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required – Master’s Degree, previous college-level teaching experience, academic advising or student counseling

Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position


Preferred formal education or training, professional skills and work experience

Previous UNI 101, 201 or 120 teaching experience, experience working with first-year, transfer, and/or pre-health college students
